Australian iconic and up and coming artists Margaret Olley, Garry Shead, Jason Benjamin, Melissa Egan, Kerrie Lester, and Charles Blackman will be at the New South Wales State Library Sydney 12^th of May 2011, the event will be have a guest speaker Edmund Capon director of the state gallery of New South Wales who will be welcomed by Richard Neville Mitchell Library.

This event is a celebration in honour of 30 years of service to the art world by Berkeley Editions.

Etching House is proud to be associated with this event and Berkeley Editions.

About the Art of Etching by Norman Lindsay -

The art of etching appears to be a lost art today and the public interested in art must have very little knowledge of its technical problems, it may be advisable to explain this as briefly as possible. Norman Lindsay takes a highly-polished copper plate is first cleaned with caustic soda and dilute nitric acid. Norman Lindsay takes a hand grip which is then attached to the copper plate acting as a handle; the plate must not be touched once it is cleaned.

The artist Garry Shead has taken out the $20,000 Dobell Prize for Drawing with an imposing homage to one of the country's most infamous literary hoaxes. The subject of the ink on paper diptych Colloquy with John Keats, chosen from a final field of 34 yesterday at the Art Gallery of NSW, was strangely topical, Shead later remarked, given recent events concerning literary fakes.

JUDIT SHEAD was a fine sculptor and artist. Judit Shead was trained in the great European tradition and has works on public display in Australia, her adopted country. Judit is probably best known, however, as the wife and muse of artist Garry Shead. Most of the women in Shead's paintings are, in one way or another, Judit. "Often I start out painting a woman with a completely different face and bigger-bosomed body, but it always ends up looking like Judit," he said in 2001.
